Pretty Spring Wreath
Several months ago, I found a tutorial for rolled fabric flowers, and I've been wanting to try them ever since. I decided to make my mother-in-law a wreath for Mother's Day, and I thought that this was the perfect opportunity to make some rolled fabric flowers!
Here is the wreath I made.
The flowers were pretty simple to make. My fingers did get quite glue-covered (I can't stand to have stuff on my hands!), but I persevered and was quite happy with the way the flowers turned out.

Valentine's Mailbox
I bought this little mailbox from the Dollar Spot at Target and decorated it for Drew. All this week, Jim and I have been putting little presents in the mailbox for Drew. We've told him that when the flag is up that means there is a present inside, so he loves checking it to see if the flag is up. Jim has even put a few things in the mailbox for me this week. :)
This was a very quick and easy project. I followed this tutorial. I might eventually add some trim around the edges of the ends of mine, but I didn't have anything that was the correct width.
We are having a very low-key Valentine's weekend. Jim and I both have bad colds/sinus infections, so we are postponing our evening out until we are feeling better. Happy Valentine's Day to all of you!

Tooth Fairy Pillow
After a month of blog neglect, I am finally back. We've had a busy month! My parents were here the first week of July, and then Drew and I travelled home to Greenville, SC with them (by way of St. Louis, MO and Paducka, KY) and then spent the next week there. When we got back, our laptop started having problems, and we've been without it for the past two weeks. We got it back from the computer repair shop over the weekend (while my sister Nora and her boyfriend Clarke were here visiting). Our computer seems to be in good working order at last, and all of our out-of-town guests have come and gone for the summer, and our travelling is done as well, so perhaps I can get back into some kind of normal blogging routine again now.
Jocelyn, our friends' daughter, turned 7 last week, and for her birthday, I decided to make her a tooth fairy pillow. I had seen some cute ones on http://etsy.com, and since owls are so popular right now, I decided to try to make one. I sketched out my own pattern and used it for everything but the pocket. I had bought Drew a pair of brown corduroy pants from the thrift store, and when I got home, I realized that the knees were more worn than I had thought. I decided to cut them up and recycle them as part of my pillow. I used one of the back pockets (which already had the button and the flap) and just finished the edges and attached it to the owl's back. I was even able to use the pocket lining as the backing on the owl's ears (horns?). The eyes and beak are felt, and I blanket stitched around the eyes. It turned out as I had pictured it in my mind, so I was pleased. It ended up being the perfect gift because Jocelyn has lost 2 teeth since we gave her the pillow!

Sock Monkeys
I have two weeks at home before I go back to teaching part-time for the rest of the school year. This is just a temporary return to school - I am filling in for a teacher who is leaving to have a baby. I will be teaching fourth grade in the mornings and then coming home to spend my afternoons with Drew. This new schedule will be quite different for us, and we are praying that we will all transition well and that this will be a positive experience for our family.
Drew came home grumpy from morning church and napped badly this afternoon. When I got him up from his nap, I noticed that he felt warm. After taking his temperature, I realized that he had a low fever. We will probably be spending a few days at home.
