Potty Training

We are hard at work at potty training here at our house this weekend. I have been planning a Potty Party for the past few weeks, and yesterday was the day! We started the day with pancakes and balloons. Our goal for the morning was to potty train Drew's buddy, Curious George. I told Drew that his job was to help me teach George to go potty on the toilet. Each time George wet in the potty or kept his Thomas underwear dry, he got a sticker on his chart and a treat (which Drew got to eat for him if he promised that he would go potty on the toilet someday too). This was the treat tray.
We watched several potty training movies and read some potty training books.
Drew sat with George and encouraged him while he tried to go potty.
He and George would check the potty after George was done.
I decorated the bathroom.
After naps, it was Drew's turn to go potty on the toilet. I gave him a big box of underwear, and he chose to wear some 'Mater (from the Cars movie) underwear. I tried to think of some fun drinks for Drew to drink during the afternoon. This was a vanilla milkshake.

We had our first potty success around 5:30 in the evening. He went on the potty one other time in the evening, and then he had an accident right before bed.
Drew isn't really excited to sit on his potty, but when we read or play with him, he will sit for a while.
Today has been a pretty good day 2 of the potty training. Drew has gone potty twice so far in his little toilet and has not had any accidents. We are hoping that soon it will be just a natural, easy part of our lives. We have promised Drew that we will buy him a Gordon train when he starts to go potty on the toilet all the time. This is quite a process, and I'm sure it will still take us a while, but we are working hard and hoping to see real progress in the next week or so!

The Snowman

We had another big snow yesterday, with a total of about 7 inches. Jim stayed home from work yesterday, and we took Drew out late in the morning to play in the snow. It was a thick, heavy snow that was good for making snowballs and snowmen. I've been wanting to make a snowman with Drew all winter, but our snows have been too powdery until yesterday. Jim and I were the main builders of this snowman. Drew just wanted to knock it down -
which he did.
We put him back together, and I was able to get a picture of Drew with the snowman. After this, Drew started throwing snowballs at the snowman and eventually knocked him down again, for good this time. Drew loves to play in the snow!

Valentine's Mailbox

I bought this little mailbox from the Dollar Spot at Target and decorated it for Drew. All this week, Jim and I have been putting little presents in the mailbox for Drew. We've told him that when the flag is up that means there is a present inside, so he loves checking it to see if the flag is up. Jim has even put a few things in the mailbox for me this week. :) This was a very quick and easy project. I followed this tutorial. I might eventually add some trim around the edges of the ends of mine, but I didn't have anything that was the correct width.

We are having a very low-key Valentine's weekend. Jim and I both have bad colds/sinus infections, so we are postponing our evening out until we are feeling better. Happy Valentine's Day to all of you!

Snowy Day

We got several inches of snow during the day yesterday and throughout the night last night. I was supposed to sub at school today but ended up having a snow day. Jim also stayed home from work today due to the weather. After Jim finished clearing the sidewalks and driveway, we took Drew out to play in the snow. He loved it, and we had a great time throwing snow. This snow was too fluffy to make good snowballs or snowmen. I shot this little video on my camera.
